The annual Lawtown Jazz Fest & World Music combine all genre of music from all over the world (Jazz, Blues, Rock, Latin Music). It provides family-friendly fun for all ages and creates the perfect harmony for interaction with people from different part of the world and backgrounds to celebrate life, art, culture.

Join us for some incredible music, art, food, and fun! The city has a rich musical life, a summer favorite in the region. The Lawtown Jazz Fest & World Music will takes place on August 10 & 11, 2018 from 5pm-10pm at Appleton way, 225 Essex St, Lawrence, MA, 01840 near City Hall Plaza. Located twenty-five miles north of Boston, MA, Lawrence, is truly a diverse and vibrant city. Known as the "Immigrant City", Lawrence has always been a multi-ethnic and multicultural place with a high percentage of foreign-born residents.

 

The successive waves of immigrants coming to Lawrence to work in the mills began with the Irish, followed by the French-Canadians, Englishmen, and Germans in the late 1800s. Around the turn of the century and early 1900s, Italians, Polish, Lithuanians, and Syrians began arriving. The wave of Puerto Ricans and Dominicans started in the mid to late 1900s and continues. It has been followed by immigrants of other Latin countries, Vietnam and Cambodia. The current population of Lawrence is about 80,000 and largely Hispanic who have given a Latino slant to the local economy and culture.

 

The level of energy and commitment in the city's neighborhoods exceeds that of most communities. Whether it is exemplified at the grassroots levels in the strong neighborhood associations or in the community civic engagement and social justice programs. People in the community have created a safer place to live and work. In addition, Lawrence offers recreational, historical and cultural attractions. The city also boasts art exhibitions at Essex Art Center and hosts a wide range of cultural activities like ethnic festivals that celebrate the diversity and rich heritage of Lawrence.
